Born into a great darkness, surrounded by a vast unknown void filled with muck and mire, the Lotus starts its journey. It struggles against unseen obstacles as it slowly forces its way through the mud, rocks and muck as it strives to reach the sun. As the Lotus finally bursts through the muddy murky underworld of darkness it is plunged into a swirling new world of movement. The sun it strives to touch is still out of reach and a whole new set of challenges stand in its way. The Lotus perseveres as it battles the changing currents and the wildlife, still pushing onward and upward. It does not give up in its pursuit for the sun. As the Lotus continues to force its way up the muck and grime from its original struggles fall away, washed clean by the changing waters. At last the Lotus finally bursts free of the water to feel the first touches of sun upon its leaves, only to realize that this is not the end of its journey. The young Lotus is nothing more than a fragile, tightly bound bud that needs to embrace the sun to grow and unfold into its true potential. With determination, perseverance and faith the Lotus rises from the darkness and is able to bloom into a glorious blossom in the sun.
Our journeys are often very similar to that of the Lotus. We start in the darkness striving to find which way is up as we reach for our goals. It is all too easy to become consumed in the darkness and lose our way. If we take the example of the Lotus and keep pushing through whatever obstacles come our way not only will we break through the darkness but we will be forced to become stronger. Without the struggle of breaking through the muck the Lotus would not have had the strength to battle the changing currents to reach its goal. Once our goals seem within reach the temptation to relax our focus, to allow other things to take priority, to slow down our drive is something we have all come across. We have made it through the challenge of getting out of the darkness and we want to take a breath and relax, but the obstacles don’t go away they just change. You may find that it is time to go with the flow and let your journey take the long way or that you have to stand against the moving current. Either way we have to remember to keep moving. Like the Lotus reaching our goal often seems like the end of our journey, we have overcome obstacles, grown strong, struggled and persevered. Reaching the “Sun” isn’t the end though it really is the beginning of- a whole new journey. Embrace the journey! Learn, grow and thrive as you show yourself what you can accomplish and once you have reached the goal look for where it is going to take you next. Let it feed you, inspire you and fill you with passion as you blossom into your higher level of awareness and understanding.
